Legacy is WoW Forever's account progression: you complete challenges, earn points for the whole account and each character spends up to 16 on perks that aren't about power. Several are designed to help you level faster. This guide tells you which ones they are, how much each rank gives (with the client's numbers) and in what order to spend points as they arrive.

In short: for leveling, always start with Well Rested (more rested experience); with 5 points in Adventure, Talented (talents sooner) and Thrill of Adventure (fewer stops) open up; with 10, Frequent Flier (half-price flights). If you have points left, Gourmand and Reinforce in Resourcefulness. And if gold, PvP or raids are your thing, further down there's a build for each case.

How it works, in three lines

  • Each challenge gives one point for the whole account, and each character spends up to 16. What you put on one you don't take from another.
  • It opens with your first point, which for almost everyone arrives when a character reaches level 25.
  • In each tree, the second column needs 5 points spent in that tree and the third, 10. Some perks are also linked to another.

The perks that help you level

Adventure tree (the leveling one)

Perk Ranks What each rank gives At max Requires
Well Rested 5 +4% faster and +4% cap on rested experience +20% and +20% —
Thrill of Adventure 5 +1% max health and mana for 10 s after finishing off an enemy +5% —
Talented 5 Talent points one level sooner per rank From level 5 5 in Adventure and Well Rested
Field Guide 3 Less cooldown when adding things to the camp −25% 5 in Adventure
Field Medicine 2 −5 s of Recently Bandaged −10 s 5 in Adventure
High Alert 2 You detect stealthed players better +2 levels 5 in Adventure
Frequent Flier 1 Flights at half price and 20% faster — 10 in Adventure and Field Guide

Thrill of Adventure and Field Medicine don't work in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds: they're for the open world, which is where you level.

From the Resourcefulness tree, also useful while leveling

Perk At max Why it helps
Gourmand Food lasts twice as long In Forever, food that leaves you well fed gives +5% experience per kill: lasting twice as long saves stops
Reinforce −40% durability loss on death Less gold on repairs while you level
The Quick and the Dead +10% speed while dead and free buffs for 2 min after resurrecting You get back to your corpse sooner
Permanence Class and camp buffs last twice as long More time with the camp's improvements

From the Professions tree, if you gather while leveling

Perk At max
Bountiful Harvest +100% scarce materials from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning
Working Overtime +20% chance to gain a skill point

The names are the ones in the client.

In what order to spend your points

Points don't arrive all at once: on your first character they trickle in with challenges (level 25, 45 and 60, your professions, dungeons…). On characters you create later, the account already has points. That's why there are two different orders.

Your first character (points arrive little by little)

Point Where Why
1-5 Well Rested It requires nothing and gives the most experience. It also opens the second column
6-9 Thrill of Adventure They'll arrive after level 25: by then Talented no longer helps you (it gives you talents before level 10)
10 Field Guide One point is enough to unlock Frequent Flier
11 Frequent Flier You already have 10 in Adventure: half-price flights
12-16 Gourmand (3) and Reinforce (2) Food that lasts twice as long and fewer repairs

New characters (alts), with the account already full

Perk Points Why
Well Rested 5 More rested experience, and it opens the second column
Talented 5 Talents from level 5 instead of 10
Field Guide 1 Frequent Flier requires it
Frequent Flier 1 Half-price, faster flights
Thrill of Adventure 4 Fewer stops to eat and drink
Total 16

It's the same spread we suggest in the Legacy points guide. You can load it and tweak it in the Legacy calculator.

Talented doesn't give more talent points: the cap stays at 51. What it does is bring them forward, so it only makes sense on a character that hasn't passed level 10 yet.

Other builds, depending on how you play

Adventure is what helps most while leveling, but it isn't the only way to spend your 16 points: if you care more about gold, PvP or raids, other trees pay off more. Since every character spends their own points, each one can run a different build (for example, the gold one on your gatherer and the leveling one on your alt). We checked all of these against the tree's rules; use the link to load each one in the calculator and tweak it.

Leveling and making gold at the same time

For your first character if you gather along the way: less Adventure, but more materials and faster profession skill-ups.

Perk Points Why
Well Rested 5 The one that gives the most experience
Bountiful Harvest 5 +100% rare materials from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning
Working Overtime 5 +20% chance to gain a skill point
Bartering 1 −5% at vendors
Total 16 Load it in the calculator

Gold and professions (max level)

For the character who crafts and sells. It's the build that makes the most gold.

Perk Points Why
Working Overtime 5 +20% chance to gain a skill point
Bountiful Harvest 3 +60% rare materials
Bartering 2 −10% at vendors; Dedicated Study needs it
Dedicated Study 1 +1 to your lowest profession every day
Performance Bonus 3 More Merchant's Favor from Azeroth Commerce Authority crates
Luremaster 2 An extra fish when fishing with a lure (if you don't fish, Master Chef)
Total 16 Load it in the calculator

PvP

For players who live in battlegrounds or in the open world of the PvP ruleset.

Perk Points Why
For Great Honor 5 +10% honor: you reach each rank sooner
Reinforce 5 −40% durability loss on death (you die a lot in PvP)
The Quick and the Dead 2 +10% speed while dead and free buffs for 2 min after resurrecting
Gourmand 3 Food lasts twice as long
Reagent Economy 1 Your abilities no longer need vendor reagents
Total 16 Load it in the calculator

If you do a lot of open-world PvP, High Alert (Adventure) helps you spot stealthed players sooner, but it doesn't work in battlegrounds and needs 5 points in Adventure first.

Raids and reputation

For max-level PvE: fewer repairs, more reputation and buffs that last longer.

Perk Points Why
Reinforce 5 −40% durability loss on death: raid attempts cost less
Diplomat 4 +8% reputation
Gourmand 3 Food lasts twice as long
Permanence 2 Group class buffs and camp buffs last twice as long
The Quick and the Dead 1 Reagent Economy needs it
Reagent Economy 1 No vendor reagents for your abilities
Total 16 Load it in the calculator

Which one should I pick?

If you mostly… Build
Level a new character Leveling (alts)
Level your first character and gather Leveling and making gold
Craft and sell Gold and professions
Play battlegrounds PvP
Raid or grind reputations Raids and reputation

What we don't know yet

  • Whether a new character can spend points from level 1. Talented only makes sense if it can, and that's how Blizzard describes it (account points that each character spends), but we haven't seen it in the game. We'll check on November 4.
  • The perks still missing. The client has "Not revealed yet" slots in all three trees: Blizzard will add perks with upcoming updates.

Frequently asked questions

Which Legacy perk should I take first for leveling?

Well Rested: it requires nothing, makes rested experience build up to 20% faster and with a 20% higher cap, and its 5 points open the second column of the Adventure tree.

Does Talented give more talent points in WoW Forever?

No. It gives you talent points sooner (from level 5 with all 5 ranks, instead of from 10), but the cap is still 51. That's why it only helps characters that haven't reached level 10 yet.

How many Legacy points can a character spend?

At launch, at most 16 per character. Points belong to the whole account, and each character spends them on its own.

Is Frequent Flier worth it?

If you fly a lot, yes: it halves the price of all flights and makes them 20% faster. It requires 10 points in the Adventure tree and one point in Field Guide.

Do Legacy perks work in dungeons?

It depends. Well Rested and Talented always work, but Thrill of Adventure and Field Medicine have no effect in dungeons, raids or battlegrounds.

Where should I spend Legacy points for gold or PvP?

For gold, the Professions tree: Working Overtime, Bountiful Harvest, Bartering, Dedicated Study and Performance Bonus. For PvP, Resourcefulness: For Great Honor (+10% honor), Reinforce, The Quick and the Dead and Reagent Economy. Both builds are in the guide with a link to the calculator.
