Best WoW Forever addons and how to install them
Forever doesn't run on the Classic client, so the usual addon list doesn't apply. Here is what already has a Forever build, what the game ships by default, what doesn't work yet and Blizzard's rules.
Addons that already have a Forever build
Each of these has a file published by its author for the Forever client, with the date shown. We have not tested them one by one in combat: they may break between patches.

Anyone who kills 5 players in 20 minutes becomes WANTED and shows on the map; if someone on your side hunts them down, they collect the bounty. It also tracks duels and player-posted gold bounties, paid by mail. Open it with /hh. Which addons make this list
Which addons make this list. Those with a Forever build updated in the last 30 days, real-world use (over 5,000 downloads or an author with an established track record), that cover something the list doesn't already cover and that say so if they send game data elsewhere. If you're an author and yours isn't there yet, write to us: we note it and look again once it qualifies.
How to install them
Forever uses the modern game's UI architecture, not Classic's. That is why Classic Era addons won't load without changes, while Midnight addons port more easily.
CurseForge already lists the "Forever" game version (1.60.1): when downloading, pick the file flagged for Forever. WowUp supports it in its beta releases (2.24.0-beta).
The client interface number is 16001. If an addon shows as "out of date", its author hasn't declared that number yet.
By hand: unzip the addon folder into Interface/AddOns/ inside the game folder (in the beta it was World of Warcraft/_classic_beta_/). To find it, click the cog next to Play in Battle.net › Show in Explorer; if there is no Interface folder, log in once and quit.
The ones that don't work yet
As of September 20, none of these has a Forever file. They aren't banned: nobody has ported them yet, or they can no longer do what they did.

Blizzard's rules
Addons that make combat decisions for you aren't coming back. Blizzard is bringing Midnight's addon "disarmament" to Forever: combat data arrives protected and addons can't compute with it. Tim Jones and Mike Nuthals confirmed it to Kotaku.
"We did opt for the modern API approach", engineer Nora Mills said in the September 17 Q&A. In exchange, the game ships a damage meter and a Cooldown Manager, with a swing timer "perhaps coming soon".
GDKP runs are banned (Josh Greenfield: "the short answer is no"), so addons that manage them have no place.
There is no automatic group finder and no summoning stones: groups form through chat and the Classic-style LFG tool. We found no rule against group bulletin boards.

Quick answers
How do you install addons in WoW Forever?
With CurseForge, picking the file flagged for the "Forever" game version (1.60.1), or with WowUp in its beta release (2.24.0-beta). By hand: unzip the addon folder into Interface/AddOns/ inside the game folder and restart the game.
Where is the WoW Forever addon folder?
In Interface/AddOns/, inside the game folder. In the beta it was World of Warcraft/_classic_beta_/Interface/AddOns/; Blizzard hasn't said what the live folder is called, so open it from Battle.net (cog next to Play › Show in Explorer). If there is no Interface folder, log in once and quit.
Does Questie work in WoW Forever?
Yes, since September 25. Official Questie supports Forever since version 12.0.1 and is now on 12.1.0 (October 12). Some new Forever quests may not be marked yet. The game also has its own quest markers on the map.
Does Leatrix Plus work in WoW Forever?
Yes. Leatrix Plus has a Forever build (1.60.20-forever, October 15), and so does Leatrix Maps (1.60.23-forever, October 14).
Do you need an addon to track damage?
Not needed: WoW Forever has a built-in damage meter (Blizzard confirmed it in the September 17 Q&A). If you want more detail, Details! now has a Forever build (October 16), and ThreatClassic2 tracks threat, within Forever's limits.
Why does an addon show as "out of date"?
Because its author hasn't declared the Forever client's interface number, 16001, yet. It doesn't mean it won't work, but it wasn't built for Forever.
Is there WeakAuras for WoW Forever?
Not the official one. There's an unofficial replacement, ForeverAuras (version 0.90.57, October 17, still in beta), based on WeakAuras. With Forever's combat restrictions, not every aura will work.
Which addons are worth having for leveling in WoW Forever?
With a Forever build: Questie (quests on the map), Leatrix Plus (quality of life), What's Training ? (Forever) (what your trainer teaches), TomTom (arrows to coordinates), Naowh Forever (dungeon journal and reminders) and RestedXP if you want an in-game guide. The damage meter is built in.
