Stances, forms and aspects
Spearing Strike in Battle Stance Spearing Strike needs Battle Stance (Blizzard, 1 October). Use it on giants, dragonkin and mounted enemies, where it hits much harder. Intermediate Switch to Battle Stance and charge If you're not in Battle Stance, the first press switches to it and the second one charges. With Tactical Mastery (level 14) you keep some rage when you switch. Intermediate Charge from Defensive Stance (Vanguard) Needs the Vanguard talent, which lets you Charge in Defensive Stance: it only pulls you out of Berserker, so a tank goes in without changing stance. Intermediate Rend without leaving the fight Rend can't be used in Berserker Stance in Classic: from there it puts you in Battle Stance; in Battle or Defensive it casts straight away. Intermediate Thunder Clap in Battle or Defensive In Forever, Thunder Clap also works in Defensive Stance (up to 4 targets). It only changes your stance if you're in Berserker. Intermediate Taunt whatever is under your mouse Pull back an enemy that went for someone else without leaving your target; if you're not in Defensive Stance, the first press switches to it. Intermediate Overpower from any stance When the enemy dodges, it puts you in Battle Stance and the second press fires Overpower. Battle Stance only in Classic; nothing published says Forever changed it. Tactical Mastery keeps part of your rage. Intermediate Revenge, switching to Defensive if needed After a block, dodge or parry: puts you in Defensive Stance, then casts Revenge. Defensive only in Classic; nothing published says Forever changed it. Intermediate Mocking Blow from any stance The tank's backup taunt when Taunt is on cooldown. Switches you to Battle Stance, as in Classic; your Revenge or Taunt button takes you back to Defensive. Intermediate Execute from any stance Execute doesn't work in Defensive Stance in Classic (it does in Battle and Berserker). From Defensive it switches you to Battle and finishes on the next press; in the other two it just finishes. Intermediate Intercept from any stance Puts you in Berserker Stance and charges mid-combat, when Charge no longer works. Berserker only in Classic; nothing published says Forever changed it. Hold Shift to Bloodrage first for the rage. Intermediate All three stances on one button Battle with no modifier, Defensive with Shift and Berserker with Ctrl. Tactical Mastery (level 14) keeps 10 rage when you switch (25 with the improved talent). Intermediate Back to your two-hander and Berserker After tanking, it swaps the shield for your two-hander and moves you to Berserker Stance with Bloodrage so you don't start empty. Put your two-hander on button 10 of the right bar. Advanced Charge or Intercept on one button Out of combat it switches to Battle and Charges; in combat it switches to Berserker and casts Intercept (level 30). One key to close the gap every time. Advanced Berserker Rage against fear Puts you in Berserker Stance and makes you immune to fear and incapacitates. Press it before the enemy's fear lands. Berserker only in Classic; nothing published says Forever changed it. Intermediate Whirlwind from any stance Puts you in Berserker Stance and hits everything around you with Whirlwind. Berserker only in Classic; nothing published says Forever changed it. Intermediate Attacking
Heroic Strike that keeps you swinging Starts your auto-attack if it was off and queues Heroic Strike on the next swing. Once you have Cleave (level 20), use it the same way when two enemies are together. Basic Charge and attack You charge the target and start swinging without pressing anything else. Basic Sunder Armor while you keep swinging The tank's threat builder that strips armour, always with auto-attack on. With your mouse over an enemy, it goes to that one. Basic Sunder Armor that picks the next enemy If you have no target or it's dead, it grabs the nearest enemy and applies Sunder Armor. Handy to spread threat across a pack when tanking. Advanced Victory Rush after a kill You have 20 s after a kill that gives experience or honour: hit the next one and heal 10% of your health. Works in any stance. Basic Heroic Strike, or Cleave on right-click Left-click queues Heroic Strike; right-click queues Cleave for two enemies. The «!» keeps a second press from cancelling it. Advanced Execute with your trinket Uses your top trinket (slot 13) in combat and casts Execute; from Defensive it switches to Battle. If your trinket has no on-use, drop that line. Advanced Recklessness from any stance +100% crit and fear immunity for 15 s, at the cost of taking more damage. Puts you in Berserker Stance, as in Classic. No longer shares a cooldown with Shield Wall. Intermediate Everything at once: Recklessness and trinkets For your burst window: goes Berserker, uses both trinkets (13 and 14), Bloodrage and Recklessness. Press twice if you start in another stance. Advanced Interrupts
Shield Bash on your focus Interrupts your focus (the enemy healer, say) without switching targets; with no focus, your target. Needs a shield and Battle or Defensive Stance. Basic Pummel your focus from any stance Pummel needs no shield. Puts you in Berserker Stance and the second press interrupts your focus or, with no focus, your target. Berserker only in Classic; nothing published says Forever changed it. Intermediate Interrupt based on your stance One button: in Berserker, Pummel; in Battle or Defensive, Shield Bash (needs a shield). On your focus if you have one, otherwise your target. Intermediate Interrupt with whatever fits, on focus In Berserker it uses Pummel; in Battle or Defensive it equips your shield if needed and uses Shield Bash. On your focus if you have one. Shield on button 12 of the right bar. Advanced Crowd control
Hamstring whoever is running Slows the enemy by 50%; with your mouse over one, that one. From Defensive it switches you to Battle; in Classic it worked in Battle and Berserker. Intermediate Disarm in Defensive Stance Takes the enemy's weapon for 10 s. Puts you in Defensive Stance, as in Classic, and the second press disarms (your focus if you have one). Intermediate Intimidating Shout and stop attacking Sends up to 5 nearby enemies fleeing. Stops your auto-attack so you don't break your target's fear by hitting it. Basic Defense and survival
Shield Block, in Defensive Stance Blocks the next two hits, which also enables Revenge. Puts you in Defensive Stance if you aren't, as in Classic. Intermediate Shield Block that equips your shield If you have a two-hander on, it equips your one-hander and shield, goes Defensive and blocks. Put your one-hander on button 11 and your shield on button 12 of the right bar (MultiBarRight). Advanced Retaliation from any stance You counterattack everyone who hits you in melee for 15 s. Puts you in Battle Stance, as in Classic. Good when you're surrounded. Intermediate Open on a pack when tanking Sequence: Thunder Clap, Demoralizing Shout, then Cleave on each press; resets when you leave combat. From Berserker it switches to Battle (Thunder Clap doesn't work there). Advanced Shield Wall from any stance −60% damage taken for 12 s. Puts you in Defensive Stance and the second press raises the wall. In Forever it no longer shares a cooldown with Recklessness or Retaliation. Intermediate Emergency Shield Wall with your shield For an emergency: equips one-hander and shield if needed, goes Defensive and casts Shield Wall. Same buttons as the Shield Block macro (11 weapon, 12 shield on the right bar). Advanced Utility
Battle Shout, or Demoralizing with Shift One button for shouts: Battle Shout for the group and, holding Shift, Demoralizing Shout to lower nearby enemies' attack power. Intermediate Challenging Shout in Defensive Stance When the whole pack breaks loose: forces everything within 10 m to attack you for 6 s. Being in Defensive Stance builds threat while it lasts. Intermediate To paste it in the game: type /macro, click "New", choose an icon (the question mark shows the spell's), paste the text and drag the icon to your bar. Spell names must be in your client's language; commands (/cast, /use…) are always in English. A stance or form number is its position on the stance bar: for example, the warrior's Battle Stance is 1 and the druid's Bear Form is usually 1.
