For a lot of players, Classic professions were a way to make gold or craft a handful of items. In Forever, Blizzard wants them to also be a reason to stop on the road with other players. We covered the basics in our systems overview; here's the detail on what's known.
600+ recipes
At the Deep Dive panel Blizzard confirmed over 600 new recipes spread across every profession and level range. Examples from Blacksmithing and Cooking were shown on stage, according to Wowhead, and the outlet's liveblog adds that Fishing has also been updated to fit with camping. Full recipe lists haven't been published.
Camping, piece by piece
At the heart of it is the Basic Campfire, which replaces the old Cooking Fire. Placing one creates a campsite where you can rest and use vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one-hour buffs. The official details:
- You have to sit down. Buffs don't come from just walking past: you need to stop by the fire for a moment and get rested. Blizzard also warns that not every corner of Azeroth is a safe place to camp.
- Three objects per Basic Campfire. Nearby players place them, one each, and they share a one-hour cooldown.
- Every profession has three objects learned at different skill levels, and each profession always provides its own buff or utility, whichever object you place.
- The first objects are learned at skill 20, from NPCs who introduce the system or from the profession trainer. Advanced ones come from Blueprint recipes dropped by specific dungeon bosses.
- Buffs don't stack with class buffs: they're variants of them.
What's been said about each profession:
| Profession | Object | Effect | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel | Increases Attack Power | Blizzard |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner | Increases Spirit | Blizzard |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle | Increases Intellect | Blizzard |
| Alchemy | Alchemy Lab | Alchemy workstation (for flasks, per Warcraft Tavern) | Blizzard |
| Leatherworking | Tanning Rack | Required for advanced recipes | Blizzard |
| Cooking | Upgraded Campfires | Allow 5 or 10 objects at camp | Blizzard |
| First Aid | First Aid Kit | Increases Stamina | Warcraft Tavern |
| Blacksmithing | Anvil and Master Forge | Workstations | Warcraft Tavern |
One detail that doesn't match: Wowhead's liveblog said the Sharpening Wheel grants Strength; the official text says Attack Power. We're going with the official one.
Food grants experience
Blizzard's summary: crafted food gets a major update and can grant a small experience bonus on top of stat boosts. Wowhead specifies that the bonus applies to experience from kills, and its liveblog says almost all crafted food will give some kind of stat buff.
Only Warcraft Tavern gives a number: being Well Fed would mean 5% more experience from kills. Blizzard hasn't published that figure, so treat it as provisional. The same outlet saw two recipes with Intellect buffs, which were rare in Classic Cooking.
First Aid, as seen in the demo
First Aid wasn't in the official text, but it was playable in the BlizzCon demo. Warcraft Tavern published what it found:
- The profession window looks more like modern WoW's than Classic's.
- A First Aid Kit for campsites, crafted from Linen Bandages and Refreshing Spring Water, with a buff equivalent to Power Word: Fortitude.
- A new curatives category: a Woolen Tourniquet for bleeds, a Simple Poultice for diseases, and the classic Anti-Venom for poisons.
- Healing potions craftable through First Aid. Warcraft Tavern couldn't confirm whether Alchemy will make them too.
- The usual bandages look mostly unchanged.
All of this comes from a pre-beta demo, so it may change.
Legacy and professions
The Legacy system has a Professions tree. The only perk confirmed by name is Bountiful Harvest, which increases materials gathered through Mining, Herbalism or Skinning. Blizzard Watch, which tried the system in the demo, lists a higher chance of skill-ups among the system's rewards, but doesn't say which tree it's in and notes the trees were sparsely filled.
What's missing
Still missing: recipe lists, camp objects for Engineering, Enchanting, Mining, Skinning and Fishing, which bosses drop Blueprints, and the numbers behind each buff. The beta starts September 17 and should clear up a lot of this; the roadmap has the dates.
