The City of Dalaran is the new WoW Forever dungeon in the Alterac Mountains, and the first time you can see Dalaran from the inside in classic WoW. The Kirin Tor raised a barrier to rebuild the city after the Third War; the barrier has fallen and everything inside has gone out of control: failing enchantments, arcane automatons and demonic energy. It opened in the beta on October 8.

How to get in
Alliance. Just reach the Image of Archmage Modera, who teleports you. The first time you have to walk from the Hillsbrad Foothills to the city.
Horde. You need the Dalaran Sewer Key, or someone in the group who has it: one key opens the door for everyone. The key comes from a short quest chain that starts with Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill:
- Prison Break In and Key to the City: find the traitors and get a grimy key.
- Dalaran Patrols: kill 6 Dalaran summoners and 12 Dalaran elemental slaves.
- Blood in the Streets: take the report to the Image of Archmage Modera, outside the city.
- Heart of Disruption: enter the dungeon and pick up the Arcane Mote. It gives you the key.
The fastest way to get there as Horde is to swim from Silverpine Forest to The Sepulcher and continue on foot.
After the dungeon, the Horde could enter the city of Dalaran. Josh Greenfield said that this was not intended and that they are going to review it.
The quests
Besides the key chain, these quests for the dungeon are known (Wowhead is still completing the list):
- The Grave Knight (Horde): given by Melisara in Tarren Mill.
- Opportunistic Education: one version is given by Rexxie Copperclutch at the dungeon entrance.
- Starving Arcane: given by a starving arcane creature next to the entrance.
- Source of Power (Horde): given by Dr. Martin Felben at the Apothecarium in Undercity, according to players (unverified).
What group to bring
- No Arcane damage. Almost every enemy is immune. An Arcane mage should go Frost or Fire; a hunter shouldn't count on Arcane Shot, and Counterspell is no use for interrupting.
- Someone who can dispel magic. One of the bosses controls a player for 8 seconds with an effect that can be dispelled: priest or paladin.
- Interrupts. The Mana Phantoms burn your mana with Mana Burn: cut them off or kill them first.
- Healer far away. One boss silences everyone nearby.
The bosses

Hover over (or tap) each item name to see its tooltip with every stat from the beta client.
Atrexis the Grave Knight
He shows up very early. He summons weak skeletons that you have to keep killing and now and then he enrages. The only dangerous thing is dealing area damage before the tank has threat.
| Item | Type | What it gives (hover for the tooltip) |
|---|---|---|
| Cloth bracers (level 26) | Strength, +5 spell power, +2 mana per 5 sec | |
| Crossbow (level 26) | +8 attack power, +9 against humanoids | |
| Ring | Its stats can't be read yet |
Arcane Anomaly
On leaving the sewers. It casts an arcane beam that sweeps the room turning counterclockwise: if it hits you, you die. At the start, small enemies appear at the edge of the room, so you have to fight inside the circle.
| Item | Type | What it gives (hover for the tooltip) |
|---|---|---|
| Ring (level 27) | Stamina, spirit, +9 healing, +3 spell damage | |
| Cloth gloves (level 27) | Stamina, intellect, +9 Arcane and +9 Shadow damage | |
| Mail chest (level 27) | Strength, stamina, +3 mana per 5 sec |
Arcanic Enigma
Wowhead counts it as a boss, but under that name it isn't in the client. It starts with two Mana Phantoms: kill them first, because their Mana Burn punishes hard. It turns a player into something else for 8 seconds with an effect you must dispel, silences anyone nearby (healer, stay far) and keeps spawning small Arcane Manalings that are cleaned up with area damage.
| Item | Type | What it gives (hover for the tooltip) |
|---|---|---|
| Cloak (level 27) | Spirit, +12 attack power | |
| Cloth robe (level 27) | Intellect, +9 spell power; when taking damage, sometimes reduces your threat | |
| Wand (level 27) | Intellect, +2 mana per 5 sec |
Unstable Sentinel
Before each malfunction it charges for a moment and then deals heavy damage to everyone within 25 yards: ranged players, stay far; melee, step out when you see the charge. As you approach, Angry Tomes come out of the buildings: kill them before the fight.
| Item | Type | What it gives (hover for the tooltip) |
|---|---|---|
| Leather shoulders (level 28) | Agility, stamina, +2 mana per 5 sec | |
| Weapon | Its stats can't be read yet | |
| Mail legs | Its stats can't be read yet | |
| Camp blueprint | A new camp object |
Mana Devourer
It is outside the Violet Hold. According to players, it puts a periodic arcane damage on the tank and hits the whole group every so often, so keep everyone's health high (unverified).
| Item | Type | What it gives (hover for the tooltip) |
|---|---|---|
| Staff (level 28) | Stamina, +36 spell power, +3 spell penetration | |
| Mail boots (level 28) | Strength, intellect, +7 critical strike | |
| Leather belt (level 28) | Agility, stamina; when hit, drains mana from the attacker |
Fel Ancient
It is protected by a mana barrier that drops when you defeat the surrounding bosses. What it does is not yet known.
| Item | Type | What it gives (hover for the tooltip) |
|---|---|---|
| Cloth belt (level 29) | Intellect, +7 spell power, +5 health per 5 sec | |
| Leather chest (level 29) | Intellect, agility, stamina | |
| Polearm (level 29) | Agility, +10 hit, +9 Nature resistance |
Lyn the Ignored
What it does is not yet known. According to players it's a hidden boss summoned with the Tome of Dalaran, an item that drops at the end of Shadowfang Keep and is taken to a summoning circle in the sewers (unverified).
| Item | Type | What it gives (hover for the tooltip) |
|---|---|---|
| Dagger (level 28) | Stamina, +36 spell power, +8 health per 5 sec | |
| Leather gloves (level 28) | Agility, spirit, +4 skinning | |
| Shield | Its stats can't be read yet |
Shade of the Archmage
The last boss. He spends his mana on his spells and, when he runs out, turns the whole group into sheep and uses Evocation to recover it. He hits the tank hard with Arcane Bolt, deals area damage within 20 yards and throws an arcane boomerang at a player: spread out, and casters stay far. Casters can hide behind the wall when he is about to polymorph, but if the boss leaves his room, he resets.
| Item | Type | What it gives (hover for the tooltip) |
|---|---|---|
| Necklace (level 30) | Intellect, +12 attack power; on use, +10% experience from killing undead for 5 min | |
| Off-hand item (level 30) | Spirit, intellect, +11 healing, +4 spell damage | |
| Shoulders | Its stats can't be read yet | |
| Camp blueprint | A new camp object |
The client also has two encounters with no known loot or tactics yet: Mana Elemental and Mana Wraith.
What to watch for between bosses
- Mana Phantoms: they aren't elites, but their Mana Burn is very harsh. Top priority to interrupt and kill.
- Saturated Remnants: on death they leave a zone that restores mana to anyone standing in it. Use it.
- If you all die, the run back from the spirit healer is long: better for whoever has a resurrection to survive.
What isn't known yet
- What the Fel Ancient, Lyn the Ignored, the Mana Elemental and the Mana Wraith do.
- The rewards of the dungeon quests.
- Whether Blizzard will change the Horde's access to the city, and when Kirin Tor reputation arrives for the Horde (they said it's fixed for next week).
- The stats of the pieces that the client still has encrypted.
All the loot from this and the other dungeons, boss by boss, is in the dungeon ladder, and the level 30 gear by class is in the BiS. What to do at your level is in the guide on what to do at level 30.
